Preparing your skin for your spray tan is essential! Rough or dry skin can lead to uneven and patchy results. It's important to keep your skin well-maintained and moisturized. Ideally, start moisturizing twice a day and drinking plenty of water at least a week prior to your spray tan. This practice is also recommended for aftercare, helping you develop a healthy routine.
How to Prepare for your Spray Tan
DAY BEFORE
-
Shave and exfoliate in the shower. It is best to use an exfoliating mitt/glove. Don't forget to exfoliate feet, heels, elbows and any other areas that have dry patchy skin.
-
Apply lotion to rehydrate your skin.
-
All manicure and pedicures should be done before your tan.
-
Waxing and laser treatments should be done 24-48 hours before.
DAY OF TAN
-
NO LOTION, it will create a barrier between your skin and the spray tan.
-
No make-up or deodorant. I have wipes here if you need to remove makeup and deodorant here.
-
Recommend bringing or wearing dark loose fitting clothes for after your spray tanning session.
-
NBM provides disposable undergarment for you to wear if you wish or recommend that you wear dark under garments for your spray tanning session, ladies.
-
Gentlemen must keep private parts covered at all times.

Special Tips - Before
-
Don't shower right before your spray tan, if you have to, cool water rinse only, no soap.
-
Always wash your body after you condition your hair. Conditioner can leave a residue behind on your skin.
-
Never use bar soaps or Dove products.
-
I have exfoliating wipes here if you didn't have time to prepare.
-
Drink at least half your body weight in ounces on a daily basis.
-
Waxing should be done 24-48 before your spray tan.
How to Care for Your Spray Tan
Right after your spray tan
-
After your spray tan try to avoid getting wet, sweating or any sort of exercise. Doing any of those will result in uneven development, streaky or a patchy tan. (No manicures or pedicures after your spray tan. Try to schedule those before your spray tan)
-
It's highly recommend not wearing a bra or a tight strappy tank top for at least 4 hours after your spray tan.
-
Avoid any sort of tight clothing like skinny jeans or leggings.
Day(s) after your spray tan
-
The next day or 8-12 hours after your spray tan make sure to shower. You will notice the cosmetic bronzer will rinse away, this is totally normal.
-
When shaving make sure to use a sharp razor. It's recommended to use a sharp razor and conditioner or coconut oil when shaving. Shaving creams and gels are very drying and can remove your spray tan.
-
DO NOT scrub or exfoliate your skin!
-
Pat dry when done showering.
-
Use a clear gel cleanser or one recommend for spray tanning. DO NOT use bar soap, Dove or a moisturizing body wash.
-
Moisturize AT LEAST 2X a day. Keeping you skin moisturized will help your tan last longer and fade evenly. Try to avoid drugstore brand moisturizers, they are usually a mineral oil based lotion and mineral oil will strip away your spray tan. I carry a great line of moisturizers/tan extenders that will prolong your tan and get you the most out of your spay tan.
More things that can fade your tan
-
Anti-acne products that exfoliate, or dry the skin- Accutane, and Salicylic acid, can affect tan fading.
-
A women's tan may develop differently during various hormonal changes (ovulation, menstruation, pregnancy) It may be streaky, patchy, fade worse, or produce lighter or no color.
-
Bug spray, perfumes, body sprays when sprayed directly onto skin, can remove or fade the tan. Instead, spray on your clothing or spray and walk into it.
-
In winter skin is often very dry, and tan will fade faster. Switch to twice daily moisturizer use. Use a lotion after showering on damp skin. Try a heavier body cream, or butter, just before bed. Body Butter can also be used twice daily. Regular light exfoliation can be helpful.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions do I need for results?
One spray tan will give you your desired results.
What is DHA?
DHA is the active ingredient found in all sunless tanning products. It is a simple carbohydrate that is primarily used as an ingredient in sunless tanning products. It is often derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane, and by the fermentation of glycerin. DHA does not make your skin cells darker in pigmentation, but rather reacts with the proteins and amino acids found in the top layer of your skin to create a darkening effect or ‘sunless tan’.
How long does it take to get a spray tan?
We usually recommend allowing 20 minutes for your first session so we can go over what to expect and how to get the best results.
How long does the spray tan last?
The custom tan should last 7 to 10 days. Properly preparing for your spray tan will help your tan last longer and fade evenly too.
What do I wear?
You can wear as much or as little as you are comfortable with. I recommend you wear a dark colored swimsuit or undergarments if you choose to wear something. We have disposable undergarments for you to wear if you would like. The tanning solution will wash out but in some cases might stain light colored garments or delicate fabrics. After your spray tan we recommend not wearing any tight fitting clothing, such as a bra, jeans and leggings. These can rub your tan and cause it to develop unevenly. Men must wear undergarments during their spray tanning session.
Do I still need to wear sunscreen?
YES!! You will still get a sunburn if you don't wear sunscreen.
Can I go swimming with a spray tan?
Yes, but keep in mind it will make your tan fade faster. I recommend apply lotion before and after you go swimming.
Will it rub off on my clothing?
Until you shower, you may see a little of the bronzer come off on your clothes. The solution is water soluble and will wash out. We recommend bringing dark, loose fitting clothing to wear after your session. Important: the bronzer has been known to stain leather, suede, silk, linen or fine materials.
